The Ascension of Christ
The Ascension of Christ (Acts 1:9) is depicted
in the large cut-glass panel that graces the sanctuary of our church. Designed
by St Andrew's old boy, Mr David Liauw of DP Architects, this masterpiece was
installed on 14 January 2005 at the newly renovated church.

The Glass |
 |
Unlike stained glass which is dyed glass,
coloured cut glass has colour "solidified" into it. In the Church of the
Ascension Sanctuary panels, pieces of coloured glass were cut and joined
together to make up the final design. This ensures that the colours will not
fade over time. |

The Design
The artwork is a modern rendition of
Christ's ascension. Constructed with both textured and clear coloured glass
pieces, the artwork deviates from the traditional use of stained glass
whereby depictions are realistically presented. Instead the artwork leaves
much to the imagination. The lower right hand corner is in a strong green
hue depicting the Mount of Olives. Surrounded by His disciples, the glory of
Christ is accentuated by the light coloured stained glass.
